Mt. Kailash Tibet & West Nepal Trek

Friday, September 1st, 2000

Bob circles the holy mountain. For the story and pictures of his experience go here.

Bob mentioned that when he did his Kora (trip) around the holy mountain of Kailesh in Tibet you always knew who the Jains were because they circum-navigated the mountain clockwise and the Hindus and the Buddhists walked around counter-clockwise. The belief is that if you make so many trips around the mountain in a lifetime (something like 24) that you can achieve freedom from your sins on earth.

Climbing In Nepal

Thursday, June 18th, 1998

Bob climbs mountains in Nepal, including Everest base camp, on two different occasions…in 1998 and in 2001. I’m waiting for him to tell his own story.

The cultural heritage of the Kathmandu Valley is illustrated by seven groups of monuments and buildings which display the full range of historic and artistic achievements for which the Kathmandu Valley is world famous. The seven include the Durbar Squares of Hanuman Dhoka (Kathmandu), Patan and Bhaktapur, the Buddhist stupas of Swayambhu and Bauddhanath, and the Hindu temples of Pashupati and Changu Narayan. The valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
