This is my friend, fi-o-cwacka, long lost cousin of Dyn-o-mite. We'll be spending the next few days together. Today, I took the trip from Sihanoukville to Kampot, a sleepy town 105km to the east. Most of the day was occupied with driving and exploring along with a Israeli/Danish couple, if they could be called that. They're traveling together, so they're a couple, right? After dropping my things off at Blissful Guesthouse (a wonderful place, by the way), we drove deep into some Cambodian villages. We were looking for some caves that we had heard about, but the roads were so ideal for dirt biking that we got "lost" often. Most people in the villages were quite shy but others seemed interested. I waved at those interested as I passed and they just looked at me strangely. Do these people not wave? Is that not part of their culture? I guess I was surprised, but I probably shouldn't have been. We would occasionally ask for directions, only to remember that these people didn't speak a word of English. After fifteen minutes of sitting and trying to communicate, the town English speaker came by and gave us some crazy directions, which we followed (why not?). We eventually found the caves (whose proper name seems to escape me right now... Phnom something or other) and explored them with the help of twenty local children. Tomorrow, I'm headed to Bokor National Park. Comments
My first bike was a TT600...seeing as how I'd do random spontaneous power wheelies on that thing cuz I couldn't control it, fi-o-cwacka would kick my ass in Cambodia. Nevertheless, I'd love to be riding alongside you! Posted by: Leelee on March 12, 2005 10:46 PM |
