June 15, 2005Day 10 Martinique
The actual Trois-Ilets village was about a 5 kilometer walk north of where I was staying. I had walked the beginning of the road but decided against it because there were no actual walking path. The road basically ended at the weeds. I spend that day dodging cars as I walked up and down rolling hills. It was easily the most humid day of my entire trip. I had actually never sweated so much before. After about an hour and a half I finally made it to the quaint little town. The village was just a little historic seaside port that had yet to feel the changes from tourism. There was really not much to see so I just made a quick run through. The most interesting things I came across were the little kids playing in the school yard singing french play songs. The other was a memorial site dedicated to Emperess Josephine where she was baptized in 1763. The people still hold her in fond memory because there were fresh flowers and a dozen lit candles at the road side shrine. Once I got back to the hotel, I did a quick shower and a nap. Once refreshed I headed back into town to try and work on the logistics of getting to the airport on Sunday morning. Like many other countries/islands, everything closes on Sundays. This brings pretty much everything to a crashing halt. I checked on the Ferry schedule back to Fort-de-France. There was a Ferry that ran at 7 in the morning so if all else failed I could get back to the big city where I’m sure I could catch a taxi. While I was hanging around the harbor I noticed a guy with a laptop and a cell link. I just inquired with him about any local internet access and got into a little conversation on why his computer was running so slow. With him being a novice, it was a quick fix to get his computer back to speed. While doing so he let me throw the quick message about me not being dead and that I was finding it difficult to get power for my laptop as well as to find general internet access. Once I had at least made a little bit of progress on both fronts I grabbed my usual ingredients for dinner. While talking to my Rasta produce dealers, I inquired with him on a transport to the airport. He said no problem for $30 E. With that I was happy to not have to deal with it anymore. The only other good option I had would have been to cut a day off of the resort and head back into town where I would stay the night at the sex resort and then grab a taxi from there. With the Rasta, I could bath myself in luxury for one more night, as well as get some more booby action in. That night I stayed up later than 10pm so I did a stroll through town. There was not a lot happening with only a few of the restaurants being packed while most only had one or two groups in them. No clubs or parties per se, so after the stroll I turned in. Comments
Hey, Hey Mr. Warner Good to hear from you. Which island were you from? I couldn't remember if it was St. Lucia or not. If it was I got to go there twice. Steve Posted by: steve on June 23, 2005 11:45 AMPost a comment
