Day 8 Martinique

Copy of 100_0562.jpg

I woke up the next morning about 6am to the sounds of a pail full of disinfectant hitting the floor above me. I figured I had paid my dues until the 10am check out, so I hung around until about 9:30. A little later, I packed my stuff and I was out of there. The nice lady was there and she invited me back. I said sure, my home away from home. A few seconds later I heard the gush from my room. I guess she did not consider me cleaner than any of her other pairs of guests. Oh well, I am looking a bit raggedy these days.

I headed down to the Ferry station to grab one of the Ferrys across the bay to the tourist area of Trois-Ilets. The Trois-Ilets city is actually a small harbor town, but the close by tourist resorts areas use the same postal address. I was headed for the little seaside town of Anse Mitan. Anse Mitan is a little further west closer to the beach areas and a short distance from the expensive resort area of Pointe Du Bout. In the magazine I was given they listed a very reasonable Hotel that I was interested in. After five people giving me directions I finally came upon the Hotel, it was closed. Shit! I figured I would go up the road a bit, which was on par for me turned into a steep climb over a hill. At the top one road dead ended. On the downward side I came upon another Hotel. Luckily, it was the second place that I had requested. There was a very old lady there that spoke only French. With my limited French we were able to get the Owner on the phone who told her to just get me set up and she would deal with me when she got back. I did notice that the price list at the door was for $55 E a night for the basic and she had offered $43 E to me. With that I was pleased, although it was much higher than the $31 E the other more spartan place would usually go for. The lady took me to my room where I was pleasantly shocked. It was a super nice, clean, big and clean, with air conditioning and clean, with a sparkly new clean bathroom, and a beautiful view of the beach. I was so happy I almost cried. I quickly stripped and took a cool refreshing shower. It had been a while that I had been in a place that was so clean and spiffy. I just soaked for a while. I then jumped into bed and let the cool airconditioned air blow upon me. I was in heaven. I later took a stroll into town and picked up some bananas from the French Rastafarians, a Baguette from Deli France, and some cheese and sodas from the little marina grocery store. I cam back and met the owner, filled out some forms, and went upstairs to my room to eat and eat. By 9 pm I was crashed out for the day. It turned out to be a great day.
