My last two weeks in pictures

Some photos for me mam.

A mayan lady selling trinkets in Chichicastenango

Just a couple of the many masks available to buy at the market.

Lauren contemplates the full meaning of the words Rain Forrest

Tikal

Some bird I saw giving me the eye at Tikal

The next few pics are from Samuc Champey, a beautiful national park. While there I went caving, this involved being submerged up to my neck in water with just a candle, held out disparingly above the water, lighting my path. It was super sweet.

The next pic is of the most amazing chair I have ever seen. Yes. It is the big guy´s lap that Lauren is sitting on.

The next few are from Lago de Atitlan.

So there you go, another lazy post completed!

Just some pictures for the folks back home

Cut me some slack please, I’ve been studying Spanish for 6 hours a day and therefore can’t be bothered to write! (okay, okay, I may

explain each picture a little if I feel it is necesary.)

A Church…not enough? alright, it was the church that my Spanish teacher took me to in a town surrounding Antigua, we went for the first day of lent. I wrote in an earlier post about the carpet of fruit and flowers, well, it was here.

Above is Lauren doing a little jig with Katrina, the family dog. Notice the purposeful design of Katrina’s fur?Looks like she is wearing Cowboy chaps, non?

So the super hottie in the middle is someone we just met that night, the guy on the right (our right, not stage right) wearing the cream top is Arne who is also staying with our family in Antigua, and the portly soul on the left is a friendly Guatemalan chap we met that night.

This is an important photo of Lauren using our wrapped presents for Gabrielle’s birthday as a crown and libram of truth. The unsued wrapping paper roll is standing in for some sort of cane. The entire piece is meant to be reminiscent of a Queen. It’s good to share.

Just gotta love that dog.

Viva piñata! The birthday of the youngest of the house (Katrina not included.) Oddly enough the father, Saline, who is one of the most kindly and cheerful men I’ve met while traveling, looks more than a little like Dustin Hoffman, and Gabrielle in his mannerisms reminds us all of a younger, more dangerous Tony Soprano.

Just in case you didn’t know what happens to the poor piñatas.

A religious procession marking the first Sunday of lent. This coffin-esue plinth of the big guy takes 40 men to carry and one person at the front to lead. Slightly sinister.

And following up Jesus comes who I assume is Mary, although she has changed out of her standard blue and white smock and gone for a rather more grandoise white and gold in this incarnation. I am fully aware that I could be wrong though.

To lighten up the proceedings, it is more than possible to purchase a number of novelty items. Want to get yourself a ‘holy priest rattler?’ This guy is the person to see.

There was a number of different sects out on the day. These guys look the coolest by far.

For those who couldn’t make it to Antigua, Jesus T.V. is on hand to capture every moment.

The choices made available to me when I went for a haircut.  Number 5 was a little tempting.

A man going to work on the back of my head with a cut throat. Sweet.

My new barnet. Notice the uber prominence of the Mo. I’m buying a Cowboy hat and Boots to go with it soon…

Been fairly bored for the last few days…

There is no two ways about it, the title of this entry is a fully realized porkie-pie. Firstly, and perhaps most importantly, is our Spanish studies. We are studying at a school just near the main plaza in Antigua. It really ... [Continue reading this entry]
