January 07, 2005Google, Gurgle
I'm fascinated by the ads that appear next to my blog, subjects apparently chosen by the Google Machine. For example, writing about the Algonquian Indians of Massachusetts, I got a web link to a dating site for "Indians." Writing the word "worth" gave me a half-dozen links to financial advice. "Breakdown" seemed to suggest project management to Google. This is pretty interesting. How does the technology to search and match work? And why, since I wrote "Butch Cassidy", am I now getting comments from DVD salesmen? Wow. Meanwhile, I'm reading from the Google ads: Lose Weight Now How do they know? Fascinating! If anyone can teach me Google Tech 101, I'd be grateful. And, lest there be any doubt about my point of view on this, I must say that I'm also grateful for the advertising, since it supports the excellent work of the Boots 'N All team.
