I’m off to Ennis!

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

I don’t know whether to scream, laugh or cry! I just got a phone call from Ireland and have found out I’ll be working in Ennis! That’s fantastic…it’s on the west coast which is where I wanted to be and I think the position is in early intervention which is good. Apparently I did well in my interview…so well in fact that one of the interviewers will be my manager – arghhh! I think I’m still having flash backs about that interview and to think one of them will be my boss. It’s scary. Well, two out of the three were nice, there was just one lady who kept on looking at me expectantly, like I had more to say. I didn’t. I don’t know what else she wanted me to say. I guess I shouldn’t stress about it. Whoever it was was obviously impressed and that’s all I need to worry about. I should get an email tonight that will have all the details of my new job. It’s real and it’s actually happening now. Now lets just hope I can get to Ireland before my holiday in October!

And now I’m going to go and research dive shops and clubs near Ennis!

The worst interview in the world

Saturday, July 7th, 2007

I’m still having flashbacks and shruddering when I think of my interview earlier this week. It was an interview unlike I have ever had before (not that i’ve had many!) and I hope I never have to have one like that again. It was very therotical, but not in a direct clinical way. Questions like, “What does quality mean to you” “how do you know you are doing evidence based practice”, yes. But HOW do you know?!?!” “What did you learn about yourself from that?” “How would you do it differently next time?”Arggghhhh, I could go on and on, but unusually for me, I can’t actually really remember the questions they asked!

What I really wanted when I’d finished was a stiff drink. I don’t drink scotch (not even with coke) but my god, that’s what I felt like I needed. That, or a big block of chocolate. Both would have been even better.

I really thought i had blown it. That’s how I felt when I came out. And to top it off I was meant to find out quite quickly (like in 10min) but they kept me waiting for an hour. An hour! Can you imagine how I was feeling? I was hoping that they were debating me, which at least meant I hadn’t completely bummed out. Anyway turns out, they did have the result quickly and it was the HR people who kept me waiting (buggers) because they were talking to other people.

And the result?

I got the job!

Well, some job anyway. Offically, I have been ‘recommended’ for a position with the HSE. What that actually means is they have to go and do security checks to make sure I’m, not going to try and blow up any airports, have a medical check to make sure I don’t have any horrible contagious diseases and that I’m protected against all of those horrible diseases and that my references all say nice things about me.

Some time next week I will be offered a position based on where I want to live in Ireland and what type of work I want to do, so until then, i don’t really know any more than that.

Countdown to Interview

Well, in just over a week I'll be heading to Sydeny for my interview with the recruitment company a Speech Pathology job in Ireland. I'm meeting up with some of the girls I went to uni with so that should ... [Continue reading this entry]
