In Cusco now!

Well, today is my 4th day in Cusco, and it has been really great!

I was supposed to stay in Hostal Iquique, but they asked me to move as there was a large group coming in, so I stayed in Hospedaje Teocas for the first 3 nights. Nice people run the hostel.

The first day, I got a tourist ticket, for student price, and walked around and did some of the things on the ticket, like musuems, churches and such. Some of the places I visited were the Cathedral, the Religious Art Museum, San Blas, Contemporary Art Museum, and Santa Catalina where you can see paintings of Jesus in a lacy skirt..hehe..actually, its the Lord of the Earthquakes ;). I also just walked around town, passing by St Teresa Church, San Francisco Church, and the San Pedro Church.

The second day, I went to the San Pedro market and the Artisans market in the morning. I did a city tour in the afternoon -- the city tour went to some archaeological sites that I had debated on hiking to..but did not want to hike alone.

We went to Qorikancha, or Santo Domingo. It was so packed there! We saw the old inca walls, the temple of the sun, etc. In the end, I lost my tour group!! There is this one room where you can stand on a block, and see the windows aligned. My group left me. I looked around, exited, looked around, could not find them..crap! Anyways, walked down a ways and found them as they were boarding the bus!

After that, we went to Saqsaywaman, a well preserved Inca ruin area. It was really neat! There were nice views of Cusco from there as well.

Then we went to Qenqo. We walked through a small entrance, through a natural cave. There was a table where human sacrifices were made. Then walked around a bit. I met John, from England, who is on a RTW trip.

Then we went to Tambomachay, where you can drink water from the fountains. Three handfuls of water, and you will look younger...I dont need that!

After that, we headed up to Pukapukara near sunset. We were only there for a few minutes to walk around as it was already getting late.

John and I went to dinner after the trip. We went to a really neat cafe called Los Perros - expensive though. He said that he had taken Lariam in South Africa, and had some really wild dreams, and that he was still not quite with it even though he was off the pills. Glad Im not taking those!!

Oh yeah, now I am carrying around some fake Peruvian money. I somehow got a fake sole. Hmmm..what should I do with it? Well, I will probably put it back into circulation somehow!
