The artist and the student

I made it to Cuenca yesterday, the 11th. I walked around Cuenca when I got there, but since it was Sunday, the whole town was closed down. A town of about 600,000 people, and maybe 100 were out and about.

I hung out at the hostel in the evening, met my rommates - Grithe from Germany and Sandor from Holland. We hung out with a bigger group of people. One girl from England, Frances, had meet an Argentinian boy who worked at an art gallery the day before, and had meet an Argentinian painter. They were hanging out with us at the hostel, then invited a group of us (about 6 or 8 people) to a party at the gallery. Strange, but we figured, since were in a group, it should be okay.

The artists name is Ariel Dawi. He has a permanent studio in Cuenca, and has his art in the local museum, as well as other museums around the world. Internesting! Israel, the young guy, works at Ariels gallery, and is a student as well. It was quite fun. We walked around the studio, and Ariel showed off his paintings. He had quite a few stacked around. Later, Ariel played the guitar and flute, while Israel thumped sounds on a speaker he was sitting on, as they both sang. They were quite good, actually! And then there was dancing - Ariel and Israel, Grithe and Favella (an English lady) were dancing the most - salsa and meregue. The rest of us were watching. It was definitely an interesting night!
