July 10, 2004Aburrida en Riobamba
Yup, Im pretty bored here in Riobamba. If it werent for the Nariz del Diablo train, I would have left already :P Yesterday morning, I got to Riobamba, walked around, and found that theres really not much to do here, unless you want to book a climbing or trekking trip. Otherwise, its just another city. I went to the markets this morning. It was a bit overwhelming..lots of clothes, toys, junk, produce, raw meat...lots of raw meat..and fish for sale. A lot of people out and about walking around today. Im staying at the Tren Dorado, next to the train station. My room is more than I wanted to pay - $10-night, but its private and I have a private bath and cable TV. Well, it still fits under my $20-day budget, so thats okay. One neat thing is that, from my room, I can see a volcano in the distance. Last night, it was spewing an ash cloud, which was pretty neat. Comments
Riobamba sounds a lot like Plainville, Connecticut (except for the hiking, market and active volcano). Keep the updates coming! Posted by: Craig B on July 10, 2004 05:04 PMCable TV?! If I would've known that I would've come along! ;) Posted by: Sean on July 10, 2004 06:17 PMYes, cable TV! I think I spent too much time watching American TV shows - the Simple Life, Los Simpson, MTV, etc...its endless here! Yeah, wish you were here ;) Tonight, theres no TV...just blank walls to stare at. Quite simple accommodations, but its only $4-night, and in the middle of the city. Posted by: Marisa on July 12, 2004 06:28 PMDo they dub over the shows in Spanish or subtitle them or what? Cable wouldn't do me much good if I still can't understand it. ;) I remember we stayed at a hotel in Quebec when I was a kid and the Saturday morning cartoons were dubbed over in French! :( Posted by: Sean on July 15, 2004 03:27 PMA lot of shows are in English, with spanish subtitles, so youd be fine :P Usually the movies they show on the bus are dubbed..horribly, but quite funny!
