July 07, 2004Otavalo
July 3, 2004 - Got up pretty early. Met up with Judith and Antonette at 6:30 to make our daytrip to the Otavalo markets. We went to the Animal markets, which were disappointing. I thought it would be more involved than a bunch of people with a few pigs, cows, chickens, etc. Anyways, we headed on to the artisan´s market. It was huge, quite overwhelming, too. Bargain for everything, because they quote you pretty high. And they´ll quote you a price, you think about it, put the item down, even start to walk away, then they say, "For you mí amiga"...and lessen the price. I think I did fairly well. I got 3 hats for a total of $4, 3 woven purses for a total of $3, 3 1 meter woven cloths for $15 (those were hard to bargain for), and a pair of knitted gloves for $1.50. Not bad. Comments
