November 13, 2004My Home Town-Maffra
my small little town I live in. Maffra is a small country town in the East Gippsland region of Victoria about 220 kilometers from Melbourne. Maffra has a population of about 4,500 people but is surrounded by farming land so a lot of people live around the outside of town and work on dairy farms. Maffra's major employer is Murray Goulburn ( I have worked there) its a dairy processing company that accounts for 7% of the worlds dairy products from cream cheese, butter, milk powder, long life milk, butter oil ect. There are 7 processing plants in Victoria. Most of their products are exported overseas. Maffra is very close to the mountains and the ocean so a lot of people Fish and Hunt ( not me cant stand killing animals). People hunt Deer and fish for Sharks. If you don't work in Maffra you usually work in Sale about 18 kilometers away ( that's where I work) its a far bigger town with more shops and services. Maffra's climate varies in summer it can get to 40 degree's not often and in winter it can drop to about 5-10 degree but would average around 20-30 in summer and 10-15 in winter. Its windy a lot of the time and we receive very little rainfall as the rain usually goes to the mountains or to the sea. Overall Maffra is not a very exciting town but its home and most foreigners who visit like it as its small and quiet and life is slow paced compared to bigger towns and cities Comments
