We have now visited the beautiful world heritage town of Antigua, Guatemala, three times and have just returned for our fourth. The big national holiday in latin america is semana santa (holy week) and whole countries grind to a halt as families travel to popular holiday destinations, especially Antigua because they have the biggest processions in all Guatemala. In actual fact, these processions begin 6 weeks before and we have already seen 2 of them which is lucky because we are not rich enough to be able to stay here during the pinnacle weekend of good friday due to the crazily inflated prices.

I'm not exactly high maintenance but I didn't expect that I would feel so at home in the jungle. I guess it's just the monkey in me.
We went into the jungle twice - firstly to the pampas which involves spending more or less 3 days in a boat and then to a jungle camp for some general wandering about and regressing.

Jon and I have been very lucky over the last 15 months not to have a single thing stolen. Until now. Unfortunately, the bag which was stolen as we stepped off the bus in La Paz, Bolivia was ´the valuables bag´with EVERYTHING in it including 4 months of photos from Argentina, Chile and Bolivia. So we cried - and you won't get any images from that time on this blog.
However...
Without our loss we would not have had such a great time with our new friends.

The salar de Uyuni is the largest and highest salt plain in the world. We took a three day jeep tour with 3 friends for a high altitude rollercoaster ride of flamingos, lakes and vast expanses of absolutely nothing.

Yes I know the titles are getting worse, but this one is all about bus journeys - you see...BUS-ted? oh never mind, just read this...

From the end of the world to a humming metropolis, we felt somewhat like country bumkins in the 'big smoke'. Needless to say we shopped, saw sights, went out and drank (and yes, I think we spent most of our time doing the last of those...)

One of the most sought after destinations for the traveller is Ushuaia, Argentina. The most southerly city in the world. Apparently some Chileans claim that Ushuaia is not actually a city to try and strip it of it's title, but that may just be childish rumour. The Chileans and Argentinians are about as fond of each other as the Brits and the French.
