Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

Yeah yeah. That’s a terrible title. You aren’t the first to have thought that. But this entry IS about a voyage home, and it’s probably my favourite of the Star Trek movies, so deal with it.

Well… Most of this entry happened in the rather distant past, but I think I ought to write about it anyway, because:

A. It will bring this blog up to date, at least as far as travel goes.

B. It’s a pretty entertaining story.

C. It will provide a nice intro for our (Sarah and I’s) trip back to NZ.

After 11 months in Wellington, the time had come to head back home. But unlike on the way there, I’d have company this time. Sarah (the lovely Kiwi lady discussed in previous entries) would be coming with me. Cool! Fun! Good!

Our journey started simply. My flatmate Pablo drove us down to the Wellington ferry docks and we climbed aboard for the trip across to the South Island.

Sunset Boulevard

Sunday, August 20th, 2006

I really don’t know the song Sunset Boulevard, but it works in two ways. First, it follows general theme I’ve set for entry titles, and second it continues with the trend towards increasing geographical precision that started with the previous two. Which is to say, in rather more words than were necessary, that almost all of my time in Los Angeles was spent at my friend Nick’s place near the intersection of Sunset and Vine.

I know what you're thinking... He didn't actually decide to title a post about California "California Dreaming," did he? You bet I did. This is one writer who has no problem with self-aware use of cliches. And besides that, ... [Continue reading this entry]

WBC 2006 (The Usual Silliness)

Friday, August 11th, 2006
In keeping with my plans to limit my writing to merely vast reams rather than the utterly ridiculously vast reams, we'll just stick with a quick description of my annual pilgrimage to the World Boardgaming Championships in Lancaster, PA. Friend, roommate, ... [Continue reading this entry]

A Fond Farewell to Vancouver (and Canada [and North America For That Matter])

Friday, August 20th, 2004
Well... This entry is a bit belated, given that I'm posting it after I've already been in the Cook Islands for 5 days, but nonetheless, the remainder of my stay in Vancouver clearly needs documenting. When we last "spoke" as I ... [Continue reading this entry]

World Boardgaming Championships, Baltimore

Greetings one and all from the world boardgaming championships in Baltimore, Maryland. As some of you are aware, I have a tradition of coming down here every year, with a roommate of mine from McGill, Nick Benedict. Another tradition of ... [Continue reading this entry]

Continued Adventures in the South

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2004
It's been an eventful few days since I last wrote. The story begins on the morning of Friday, July 30. I woke up fairly late (again) and went to try and change my flights in and out of Baltimore. ... [Continue reading this entry]

First Stop: Atlanta, Georgia

Friday, July 30th, 2004
After a late night packing, I somehow managed to get up early to say goodbye to my dad and sister before my mom drove me to the airport for my flight to Atlanta, where I planned to stay with a ... [Continue reading this entry]
