Spread of the Red Menace!

No, not a page on the discursive construction of the threat of Communism in the early Cold War era…instead its a far more interesting look at where I’ve been in the world.

So far, at the ripe old age of 24 I’ve been to:

March 2006
14 countries
5% of the world (ignoring the fact that its really rather inaccurate to colour a whole country red even when you may have only travelled to one tiny part of it).

My two feet are going to be colouring alot more of the world red in the coming year.

Where have i been?

Thought i would update my map

July 2006
15 countries
6% of the world

December 2006
21 countries
9% of the world.

I’m shocked it is still so low considering i have now been to China and Australia!

Please note: the Mercator map which is the one depicted on this site and which is is the commonly used map throuhgout the world, fundamentally underplays the size, and hence importance of the the global south (i.e. Africa, Latin America and other equatorial and southern regions). The Petersons map attempts to rectify this imperialist hangover but has numerous problems of its own, so stick to a globe where possible. 🙂
