I'm sure people fall for the "temple closed" trick.  They're very convincing and seem so friendly and helpful at first.  It's too bad because there are many genuinely helpful people in Thailand and because of the tricky ones, you just can't trust anyone.</description>

Wonder how many people these smiling wannabe tour guides jilt each day.  It must have some success, since I remember that from 40 years ago, and they are still trying it!</description>
