weed garden – done

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

Another job done.
The patch looks bare with only a few onions, leeks, silverbeet, lettuces and gone-to-seed- cabbages remaining from winter. The rhubarb and strawberries are about to burst into life. The brussel sprouts can officially be deemed a failure. The warm soil invited us to pop some seedlings in, but (for obvious reasons) we haven’t grown any this year. Ignoring the garden has been like having a holiday without even leaving home.

the calendar is full

Thank goodness there are only 14 days to go.

We have got something on every single one of those days, and in some cases two or three things. Last week wasn’t too different either – we had *one* free night.

Last weekend were the first goodbyes…out-of-town-friends, out-of-town-grandparents and a quick stop by just-moved-to-a-new-town-other-friends on our way home.

Yesterday was a sunny farewell to a group of families we have been meeting with every other week for a few years now.
The “grandparents” of the group are off on their own adventure to America this week so, although we’ll get together as a group once more, this was really goodbye for them.  But before the final hugs, they kidnapped a couple of our children – off to see the Watoto Children’s Choir, and in their usual style, they blessed us by taking along two of our very grateful munchkins.

We’re going to miss you guys!

WorkWorld meets FamilyWorld

Saturday, September 20th, 2008
“So is your house always this tidy or did you guys have to spend the whole day fixing it up for us?” The question was fired past the mother to the children, a smile on the face of the asker, ... [Continue reading this entry]

What are you doing about the kids’ education?

Thursday, September 18th, 2008
This question is *the most frequently asked* one at the moment. I think people have realised that we really truly are taking the kids off for a jaunt around the world in a couple of weeks. And anyone who gives ... [Continue reading this entry]

real ideal

Sunday, September 14th, 2008
It was not ideal that two-year-old should need to use a toilet as we sat in the middle of Friday afternoon rushhour traffic on the southern motorway trying to escape ourselves from Auckland. We took the nearest exit and found a ... [Continue reading this entry]

taunted

Thursday, September 11th, 2008
“Hi Rachael. I’m Angie-your-new-best-friend from Such-and-Such Travel Package Company.” Actually she didn’t say those exact words, but that was her too-friendly-for-my-liking tone. And perhaps I'm less tolerant than I used to be....we must have had over a dozen of these Australian ... [Continue reading this entry]

Roman adventure

Thursday, September 11th, 2008
Sunday night saw us dining in candlelit style. We were transported back to Ancient Rome and dined on roast chicken pheasant, chicken peacock eggs, stuffed chicken dormouse and less exotic things like dates and olives, marzipan ... [Continue reading this entry]

latent worries

Monday, September 8th, 2008
This cycling idea is gaining momentum. In fact, it has Rob firmly in its grip and I don't think he could run away from it if he tried to now! This morning he rolled over in our deliciously ... [Continue reading this entry]

circumnavigation

Sunday, September 7th, 2008
Rob doesn't like doing things for the sake of it; he likes a purpose. Of course we already have a purpose for our Great Britain leg of the trip, but as I have contemplated cycle touring, I have come across some ... [Continue reading this entry]
