May 03, 2005Thai Hospital
I seem to be taking the medical services tour of South East Asia. It is too bad that I did not seek medical attention in Laos because then I could say I received medical attention in every country I've been to on this trip. I just didn't think that my persistent dry cough warrented a trip to the doctor. The enormous blister on my leg, however, did. It grew to be bigger then the size of a quarter and was quite thick. In addition, more blisters were starting to form. So, I went to the emergency room in Bangkok. I didn't have to wait to long. You know that you have something really icky when the medical personnel lean back and raise their eyebrows in surprise when they see it. They used a syringe to suck out all of the juice from the blister and then gave me some antibiotics. They also shaved off a sample of the outside of the blister and sent it along with the blister fluid to the lab. I waited for about 20 minutes and the test came back to say that I did not have something or other which meant that I was having an allergic reaction to an insect bite. OK. Which insect? Shrug. I guess I'll never know. One thing is for sure. I am allergic to a lot in South East Asia. My leg feels better. It is not healing very fast and I think there is a safe bet that I will get a scar.
