April 24, 2005Cambodia
For fear that I will never get around to writing in detail, I am going to just say a few words about my last days in Cambodia. 1. On the bus trip down I was sitting next to a woman who was certainly the most hippy southeast asian I have seen on the trip. She had to switch seats with the man next to her because her daughter was afraid of me and burst into tears every time she looked at me. It made me feel great. 2. Kompot- cool town. Arrived at my guest house and ran into Arran who I went abseiling with in Dalat, Vietnam. It was great to see a familiar face. Hung out with him and then he headed down to Sihanoukville (sp). Went to an old French hill station and saw abandoned decrepit buildings including a casino. Nice views. Green, rolling hills. Really bad road but I must've been exhausted because I managed to sleep on the way back. That night ran into Jared at my guest house. I met him in NhaTrang and then saw him and hung out with him in Dalat, Saigon, Phenom Phen and briefly in Kompot and then in Sihanoukville. Now we are going different directions. I think I ran into him more then anyone. 3. Sihanoukville- hung with Arran and Beata and two Spanish girls. Met others as well. Pretty and much less developed then Thailand. Got bitten by something. 4. Came back to Bangkok and was in shock. So modern and noisy and so many American chains. Also, the backpacker area looks really dirty at night. It is much nicer in the day. Adjusted by the second day. Now I am heading up to Pai in the north. 5. Still need to write about my Cambodian New Year's experience. Comments
