April 13, 2005Land Mines
Due to decades of war, Cambodia is one of the most land mined countries in the world. I visited the land mine museum in Siem Reap. It was founded by a former land mine layer who became a land mine clearer and now runs a home for kids who lost limbs to land mines. There have been 60K landmine victims since 1979 and more then half were civilians. It takes $5 to buy a landmine and $500 to destroy it. One must always stay on the beaten path in Cambodia because of the mines. Comments
