March 10, 2005Around Town
The other day near Sapa, I saw a motorbike with thing like a wire pannier over the back holding a live pig on each side. In Mai Chau, I saw the pigs tied to by their legs and just hung over their sides. I also wire rack on the back of a motorbike that had multiple levels filled with chickens. There must have been 50. It is true that necessity if the mother of invention. I've seen a few funny pedestrian walking signs. For one, I think it is funny that they are not uniform. I saw one with a man and a girl running across the street. I'm all for truth in adverstising. The funnier one was of what appeared to be a body builder crossing the street. I imagined this sign to mean "beware, strong man crossing if you hit him, your car will surely be totalled." I finally saw a woman in an udai (sp) which is the traditional Vietanamese dress. It is very elegant. It usually has a mandarin color and is fitted in the bodice and comes all the way down to the ankles but has to long slits at the hips and is worn with loose flowy pants. I've seen others wearing them but they always ruin the look with a windbreaker. Comments
