February 28, 2005Has Anyone Read . . .
Has anyone read The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood? I have read the Handmaid's Tale and liked it. The Blind . .. is a thicker book which is good b/c it means I will have it for a while but it will be tougher to pack so I want to know if it is worth it. Let me know soon. I'm sure it will get snatched up at trade in. Some other options I have are She's Come Undone, The Life of Pi, Captain Corelli's Mandalin, The Sheltering Sky (which I think I might have read). I've got my eye out for The Secret Life of Bees, Bel Canto and the All Woman's Detective Agency or somethin like that. Any comments on the above or suggestions of books to look out for would be appreciated. Comments
Hey Kim, Hey Kim - I've read the Blind Assasin, She's Come Undone, Life of Pi, and Bel Canto, Correlli's Mandolin, and the Sheltering Sky (which is weird because I haven't read a book in awhile now!). Blind Assasin was ok, but you have better choices. I personally loved Sheltering Sky (though others I have spoken to say parts are slow and it definitely takes longer to get into), Life of Pi makes for a fascinating conversation with anyone else who has read it and good thought provoker (easy read too), loved Correlli's Mandolin (minus the ending), and I actually enjoyed Bel Canto more too (easy to get caught up in it). Been wanting to read The Secret Life of Bees, but haven't yet - so if you do - let me know what you think. Oh yeah - She's come Undone is another Oprah typical book - another tragic female figure - I didn't like it (but was one of few). Hope that helps. Miss you, Laura Posted by: Laura on March 1, 2005 07:57 AMHi Kim, Finally something I can help with although since a week has passed - I'm sure you've made up your mind. Definitely Life of Pi. Great book and if you don't have the chance to swap for a new one, it makes a good 2nd read. Bel Canto is great too. |
