February 16, 2005Solo vs. Not
Rick and I have been traveling together for about 10 days and I think it is safe to say that we are getting bored with each other. It is a tough call trying to decide whether or not to part ways. He's a good guy- considerate, flexible and respectful, but I have to admit that I do not even think we will keep in touch once this trip is over. So, I am wondering why I am spending so much time with him. We have the exact same plans in Laos so it seems silly not to just stay together since there is a definite cost savings to traveling together. I would say about $5 a day which is a significant percentage of my daily budget. It is also nice to have someone to consult with over transportation decisions. On the negative side, though I definitely still readily approach other travelers, you meet less people when you are with someone. And then there is the problem of everyone thinking he is my boyfriend. Certainly that is cramping my style. I will also say that unless I am good friends with someone or romantically involved with him, I just don't need to know how stinky his shirts get or what his snoring patterns are. That is just personal information that one would normally keep to his/her self when not sharing a room. And so, I think I'll stick it out through Laos because we are on the same route, transportation can be a hassle and sometimes it is nice to have someone to hang out with. But, I''m thinking it may be time to part ways in Vietnam. My Vietnam visa begins on March 2. Comments
