January 23, 2005Game On, Game Off
On our first night in Bangkok, Tina and I sat down in a restaurant and I noticed a guy sitting alone at the next table. Because I would want someone to do it for me, I invited him to join us. He was a bit taken off guard by my very forward invitation and you could tell that he was worried that I was weird. I assured him that I was just good solo traveler kharma and he accepted. His name was Edward and he was a funny 30 something guy who looked young. He worked in wholesale glass in CO and grew up in upstate NY. He is on a 3 week trip that is his first ever out of the U.S. The next day, we befriended another solo travler while looking for a tourist attraction. Paul is from Cornwall, England and had been living in Australia for the past 6 months. He has also live in Japan, Italy and the U.S. and he volunteered at an orphanage in Romania for 6 months. He was heading down to Krabi to rock climb for a couple of months and then he was going to be traveling around SEA for a few more. Somehow, we managed to part ways without exchanging email addresses. The bums me out because he seemed like an interesting and fun guy and he also happened to have really nice shoulders. It's too bad craigslist does not have an international "missed connections" (www.craigslist.org/mis) section. "We met at Jim Thompson's House in BKK. I was the one with dark curly hair and glasses who was too mesmerized by your shoulders to ask for your email address." Comments
There are plenty of other shoulders in the sea...or fish in the sleeves. Whatever. Or should we expect an update from Krabi in the near future? Miss ya, Kim!
