The Plan

In the link below you will find the extended plan for Beth and me in Latin America if you want to come out and join us. I realize it may be long and boring so here is the short version:

June 3rd. El flyo to Guatemala Cityo

June 4th. Bus ride to Xela from Guatemala City (4 hours). Taxi ride to our host family’s.

June 5th: Chill

June 6th: Start Spanish School; Five hours a day, five days a week of one-on-one instruction with a 1/2 hour break. Weekend activities include:
• A trip to the beautiful and lush hot springs at Fuentes Georginas
• A participatory ceremony led by a Mayan priest
• A guided hike to the summit of the nearby Santa María volcano
• Salsa and merengue dance lessons
• An overnight trip to a beach lodge on the Pacific coast, with trash collection to make a bonfire and conservation activities in a nearby mangrove reserve
• Feature-length films and discussions revolving around Central American themes
• A weekend day-trip to a fair trade coffee and banana plantation
• Excursions to an indigenous weaving cooperative run by women and a glass-blowing cooperative run by men
• A weekend project volunteering at the tree nursery of a local reforestation project, with the option to hike up to visit Mayan altars in the hills above the tree nursery

July 2nd: Leave Xela for Atitlan Lake. 3-day hike

July 4th: stay in Hostel in Xela

July 5th : leave early morning for Guatemala City.


July 6th
5am pick up from hostel to Copan Ruins via Monarcas Travel; 3 hours (http://www.guatemala.ph/)


July 7th
Horseback ride through mountains of El Sapo

July 8th depart Copan Ruins and head to San Pedro Sula via bus (http://www.hedmanalas.com/contactus.htm), Honduras; need to call 504-651-4037

July 8 & 9th Begin 6-day trek in the Guatemalan countryside

July 15: Leave Xela to Guatemala City, bus or plane to costa rica. (ticabus.com);

Guanacaste Day - July 25
Celebrates the annexation of the "Partido de Nicoya" in 1824, known today as the province of Guanacaste, with fiestas, folk dances, topes, cattle shows, bullfights, and concerts. YEAH, BULLFIGHTING!!!!!!! We have to take the bus to Liberia for the full effect: it is a 4 hour ride. So we would have to stay there for two days.

July 26
Leave Liberia via bus head to Playa Hermosa for 5 more days

bus back to Guatemala City;
