Lov'n in Sydeny

G’day mates! I finally made it! I am here in Australia. I arrived at 9:00am from my LA flight. Sydney airport was very easy to get around in, so after a 10 min wait I was out the airport and into a Taxi. The taxi took my to the Blue Parrot Hostel. Here I stayed with 28 other people. The hostel wasn’t the most attractively appeasing hostel in Sydney, but it had a lot of character. The staff was super friendly, and they placed me in a 8 person dorm............

Blaaaah…..I thought, “an 8 person dorm” and no Airco. I thought for sure it would be smelly, surprisingly and thankfully it wasn’t. I was roomed with 2 Canadians, 3 Brits and 3 French guys. I had the same feeling as the first day of college. Nobody knew each other, and we all wanted to see Sydney and have a good time. So that’s what we did. Actually, my first 3 nights in Sydney were spent just partying. I need to realize that I am not 21 anymore. I can’t go get “pissed” (British for being drunk) every night and expect to wake up feeling good the next day. No, that’s an over exaggeration. I normally woke up feeling good, but I drank like I was 21 again. I met a lot of good people at the Blue Parrot, and I look forward to running into them again along my journey.
Anyway, 4 days later I went Mountain Biking in the Blue Mountains. It was a fantastic day. We rode for a few hours up the mountain to the look out point. When we got there, I was less than impressed. I’ve seen the ALPS, those are mountains, and these were just a little gorge. Then we climbed 45 mins down into the gorge. While down there, we got rained upon. No one had the proper rain gear except the guide, so needless to say I was soaking wet for our 2 hour bus trip home. All in all, it was a nice place to visit. Just if you go, choose the 1 day trip……and bring your rain gear.
The next day I booked a flight to Byron Bay. This place is a total Hippy town. I know right now Arie is thinking, "Perfect place for Kevin, in hippy heaven". Not really, most of these people just need to cut their hair, and get real jobs. I know what I DON"T want to do with my life. The stench of Pot filled that air worse then the first few blocks of the red light district. Not that I know what that smells like…..
Yesterday, I went diving. I saw +/- 50 carpet sharks average size 4-8 foot, tons of awesome looking fish, a school of king sized tuna (+/-100) that I was only 3 feet from. The carpet sharks were so cool, because they move so slowly. When I saw one lying on the ground, I touch him. I know, I know that’s a SCUBA no-no, but I am a chiropractor. I like to feel everything! Today, I rented a surfboard. The surf is really small, but its going to be fun to get wet again.
All in all I have met a ton of new people. Its different travleing. You meet someone, develope a imediate bond with that person because you share a common bond, travleing. The next day that person, your new friend, is gone or your gone. I am totally not lonely, actually I find that most times I need my own space. Backpacking is totally me. Words alone could tell you how much fun I am having.
Next week, I am headed off to Fraser Island for 3 nights. That’s going to be fun because I am paired up with 8 other people, a few tents and a 4wd truck.
We have to dive along the beach or on trails to navigate the island. Everynight we have to find a nice spot on the beach and camp-out. Its going to be great, as long I am placed in a good group. Just my luck, I am going to be stuck with 8 Japaniese who only speak broken english. No worries, I'll make the most of it! My one prediction is that I am the one whos going to be put in charge, the driver. Actually, I hope it. I don't trust too many people besides myself. If you get a chance look it up on the internet for some photos. I’ll post some when I get back…..once again thanks for following me along my trip and pray for me!

Kevin the vagabond.

Hi Kevin. It sounds like the time of your life. Do you think I would have held you back? We could have been the VanNostrand Bros. We look alike right? Love Dad

To interject on Dad's Email. He is not going anywhere. Father goes nowhere without Mother. But it sure is a great dream. Enjoying your trip step by step. I hang on every new adventure.

Hoi Kevin,
