Sydney is HORRIFICALLY expensive. Anything will be cheap after that. At the right places in Melbourne you can eat until you're stuffed for about 7 dollars, and you'll find enormous pizzas going for something like 5-6 dollars. That's 3 euros, which wouldn't buy me ANYTHING here in Paris. We're lucky to get a large pizza for 8-10 euros, which is like 17 AUD! eek! If you head down to Victoria, and you need some tips (like for uber cheap places to eat that are really good quality), email me :) Still delighted you’re having fun in oz!

It is Dave Cohen from your first few days in Sydney! It is too bad you and Jim never got together for lunch/dinner after I headed off for Manly (and didn't exchange emails!). I did find a hostel in Melbourne though that makes Jolly Swagmans look well kept! I spent one night in Nomads Market in South Melbourne and it was horribly run down with doors that looked like they had been broken down or didn't work. Nice folks there though, but someone needs to put some elbow grease into fixing up the basics! Anyway, if you get a chance, drop an email to dmc_indc@yahoo.com and hope you have a blast in OZ and NZ!
