June 28, 2005East coast feel me!
so I finished off the east coast of australia like a fat kid eats a twinkie. man that was so wrong.... but i made it to brisbane, did the chores that travellers have to do (shots, supplies, all that crap) and headed up to hervey bay where i would do a 3 day two night camping four wheel drive safari on fraser island (the worlds largest sand island). let me say one thing..when you don't drink, and you are stuck 65453210dfsdf.24 drunk kids on an island surrounded by tiger sharks, life seems pretty shitty. i got over it, as it was only 3 days..but man was it cold, and i had the awesome idea of tempting fate by running in that ocean filled with tiger sharks and running back out..just because i could..what i didn't anticipate is that it would take so long for my pants to dry..how long you ask...the full three days. how many changes of clothes did i have? NONE. yeah..life wasn't too good right then and there...but hey..things did get pretty cool during the day when i could climb up this hill called indian head, and see manta rays, dolphins, and countless number of shoes dangling off the edge of the cliffs, by either dumbasses or people who just wanted to mark their territory (whatever happened to peeing). after fraser island, i headed down to the last area i would spend my days of australia...byron bay. ahh..bryon bay...so nice, so comforting, so freaking awesome. i entered a talent competition and won a free trip to nimbin, the amsterdam of australia. I sold the trip off, since i had just went to nimbin that day...at least that money went to good use. one day i fell asleep at the beach, and woke up feeling completely amazing. For the first time in my life, i know what the idea of being "chilled to the bone" means. i honestly felt like i had absorbed that sunlight the way a marathon runner guzzles gatorade. it was crazy! i hadn't realized how cold and chilled i have been for so many weeks, until i woke up and just felt as if my bones were refreshed with solar love. i've always been a fan of darkness and thunderstorms, but now i realize how much your body needs sunlight in order to just function. hell yeah..Ra knew what was up back in the day huh? So i took the train back to sydney...which was the worst train ride of my life. the conductor was an asshole, who insisted on KICKING us to get out of the aisles, instead of just nudging us. Being backpackers, we fall asleep anywhere on modes of public transportation. a night trip = free accomodation. that's just the way it is! jerk conductor. jerk machine. his train will pay! so back in sydney, i visited with my aunt and uncle one last time, hung out with a cousin my last day and just took it easy as I was leaving for thailand the next day. I went as far as having my bags wrapped in the airport...im not taking chances of being someone's drug mule EVER! im not going to jail for you or anybody..YOU HEAR ME?! Comments
