December 23, 2005Summer in Sydney
Well, it was getting into Fall by the time I got there, but we had such mild weather it felt like Summer would never end. Quite a change after coming from the cold early spring of the Northern Hemisphere. Finally, I have the pictures from Australia for your viewing pleasure! I loved Sydney. I think I could quite easily live there. All these Australia pictures are from there. I'll put one up from Cairns later. Like I said, I was blessed with great weather while I was there, and it led to some nice picture taking opportunities. These next two were taken on the kind of beautiful summer day that typified my time there. I took them both from Circular Quay (pronounced "key"), the harbor between the two points that house the Harbor Bridge and the Sydney Opera House, respectively. Here's the iconic image of the Sydney Opera House. I took it from a several story high lookout structure. The boats in front are ferries, part of the thriving network between all the harbors. This one is one of my favorite pictures from the trip. It shows Harbor Bridge and the hotel underneath it, along with some private boats. Isn't the color of the water amazing? Here is a picture of me at Bondi Beach. It was taken by a cab driver that I hired to take me around Sydney on my last day there, to hit all the spots I'd missed. He really took to the job and became a great tour guide, so friendly and helpful. He convinced me we had time to make it to Bondi and I'm glad I did. Gorgeous. Broad white sand, amazingly colored water, a million shades of blue. I also learned that it is pronounced "bond-eye" not "bond-ee" as I had thought. I took a sight seeing tour in the harbor and environs. One of the other passengers took this lovely picture of me with Harbor Bridge. the lighting was just right. This is without a doubt the most popular picture taking spot in Sydney. This is the view everyone knows. Professional photographers hang out there, ready to take wedding pictures, or group pictures of your tour group. It must be lucrative because there were several of them there. The name of this point is Mrs Macquaries Point. She was the wife of the governor, and had a seat carved into the living rock to provide a place for her to sit and watch the water. It still is one of the nicest views. Here's a bonus shot for you - the SOH from the water. Here you can tell that it is more than one building (three, actually, though only two are visible here). Most people, myself included, think it is one long building until they get there and see for themselves. There you go! Thanks for looking at my Australia pictures! Comments
