April 09, 2005There was No Net
I didn't fall out. Let's be clear about that. So I suppose I didn't really NEED the net. But I am used to having one there. Comforting somehow. I mainly ride on Amtrak and they always have a net between the bed and the roof if you are on the top bunk. Never needed it, like I said. Never found myself in the middle of the night pitched into it. After all, I never fall out of my bed at home. But then my bed at home isn't bopping along at 80 mph and rocking and starting and stopping with a jolt. So when there was no net on my bunk on the Sydney to Brisbane train I was a little taken aback. It was my assigned bunk, though, so I gamely climbed up and settled in, and all things considered spent a pleasant night. So overall I recommend the Sydney to Brisbane run. You have to switch trains at the state border, and I will comment and that beautiful journey soon. Nice big rooms on this train though, and it comes with a small but good breakfast! Quite lovely as you travel through eucalyptus-gum forests that stretch all the way down to the waterways. Gorgeous. Comments
