September 20, 2005A Mid-Semester's Night's Dream
Where to begin? I've not written actual experiences for weeks now. Guess that's because so much has happened that it's no longer just experiences that I'm thinking about. It's thoughts and putting the pieces of life together as well as experiences. I have definitely developed a life here. I have no doubt that everything that's happened is part of God's plan for me... but I don't really know where He's taking me yet except through a wonderful experience with a humongous question mark at the end. Making a life (albeit a short one) here was remarkably easy, and I attribute it partly to the Aussie welcoming attitude... but that's only a little bit of it. I also give my personal growth a bit of credit-- a few years ago, and I probably woudln't really know what to do with myself, especially amongst these Aussie uni kids who all seem so much older than they really are. Still, not the whole picture. Having Caroline around as a throw-back to America (and not just America, but the fact that we can go back 7 years in memories together- to high school) whenever necessary is a great anchoring point. Ben has been a bit of a rock as well-- don't know quite how it happened, but I've allowed him to be very much a support when I don't allow myself to be that dependent on people in general. All in all, there's a variety of things that have made it quite easy... and almost as many things that make it quite hard. Definitely miss my friends and family. Amanda, I did get your message on the blog, and it's not that you can't figure it out (all you have to do is read what comes up on the site) it's just that I haven't posted anything as of late. All you people at UVA, I love and miss you so much, especially now that school has started and I'm realizing that my (our) last year is underway. Posted by Janice K on September 20, 2005 11:37 PM

Hahah, I made a poem for you :
The tilt of his cap How he handles the sticks Around the world Life goes on.
In the comfort of home Or a desert down under Around the world Life goes on.
And the beat becomes fast Rest in your faith Wherever you are and Bring it On! I think I change the first time it says "Life goes on" to "The beat goes on" Posted by: sammymammy on September 22, 2005 10:58 AMGlad to finally hear from you again! As for writing, how about adding something to your blog every week (as opposed to once a month). Just tell us about one unusual, or not so unusual event from the week - an encounter with an Aussie, a class that was inspiring, a sunny day that was a reminder of Virginia. or tell us how drunk you got the other night on Fosters Lager, which is Australian for beer. Posted by: sam on September 25, 2005 02:42 PMdo they even sell Fosters in Australia? Do they sell Budwieser? Are you old enough to drink? When you get carded (do you get carded?) do you show them your US ID, or did they issue you an aussie ID? Does your Aussie ID have a kangaroo on it? or a Wallabie? What are those other things called, Wombats? Do people have wombats as pets? Do they know they talk funny? These are the questions on the minds of ever American. |
