July 24, 2005July 24: The day before school!
We headed home on the train at 3:30 pm. Caroline says there's a mixer with St. Paul's this evening, so I'm pretty excited, though EXHAUSTED. Pretty happy that I'm going back to a room that I've moved into though. Today was great. I think we increased our kilometers to 25 and our steps to about 2500. Yikes! We wandered through rainforest-type areas on fairly easy walks (our legs were thanking us)-- Karl decided that he would have enjoyed these walks as a kid, as they pass through so many waterfalls and under massive rock overhangs, look out over beautiful views and have some strange and interesting plantlife. we saw some king parrots on the trail-- kinda crazy to see them in the wild and not in a zoo! The names of the areas were enchanting too-- Leura Forest, Fern Bower, Leura Cascades, the Dining Hall (picnic area). Great walk to finish it off. I have mixed feelings of the Katoomba area of the Blue Mountains National Park now-- I feel as though I've already exhausted what it has to offer, but I mostly enjoyed it! (A shout out to Momma who is all alone back home now that Daddy and Alex are off in Mexico- miss you Mommy and you can always call!) Oh, the number for all you who want to chat is this: 011 61 4 2447 3026 (If I'm wrong about that, someone should leave a comment) All incoming calls are free! That's my cell phone number, so I should have it on me most times. My new email address is jkurbjun@student.usyd.edu.au, but you can still send email to my virginia.edu account as it's getting forwarded to Usyd as well. School starts tomorrow-- CRAZY!! Cant' believe I've got to get in that mode now. Guess that will be Phase Five. Actually, I think Phase Five will begin once this initial party week is over (that's what I hear first week is-- a pure party!) and Karl heads home. So, this is still transistion, I suppose! I'm almost finished with the Fountainhead (Sara, if you're reading this, you'll get it back soon!) Again, as soon as I'm able, I'll post some pictures of my room and such. For all you that are wondering exactly what I'll be learning these next few months, here's my beautiful schedule-- I enjoy the fact that Aussies realize the beauty of a single lecture per week! Monday, 11-1 - Australian Aboriginal Religions, Lecture They meet briefly, but they do demand a lot of work! I'm excited to be in some hands-on media classes, finally, and that Social Change class looks good, but I've done much of the material before... we'll see which turns out. I would love to call you, but somehow I think "all incoming calls are free" only applies to you, and I would still have to pay a whopping connection fee. I like you, Jan, but I think I'll stick to the blog. I hope you understand. I like your course load. Lots of good courses, and variety. What does it mean by "tutorial?" It sounds sort of passive, but I'm sure it's not. Posted by: Sam on August 4, 2005 01:44 AMhttp://www.skype.com/ we can all talk for freeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
