Border Crossings

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

Tomorrow we’ll head to a border town that is near Cambodia, and the next day attempt crossing as early in the morning as possible.

As our “guide”, we’re using the often amusing Tales of Asia website. Wish us luck!

Cara overlooking Bangkok Grand Palace Mall

It is entirely possible for you to travel by foot to a bus stop to a boat taxi to a skytrain station to a mall to a subway to a train station. We have frequently used any 3 of the above in a day, and while it may seem chaotic, Bangkok has a way of making it all seem pretty seamless. Now, if only they’d implement one swipe card to pay for it all…

Worth noting: Adam likes the malls in Bangkok. There’s just something wrong about being able to walk between 5 of them on an elevated walkway spanning over a kilometer. From the skytrain stop, it has become second nature to go to the “Siam Discovery Center”, up an escalator, through the tube to the “Siam Center”, down an escalator, out to the sky-sidewalk and eventually down a staircase to our hotel street. It’s worth it for the air conditioning, and walking above the messy Bangkok traffic.

In honor of the Oscar’s:
Best Posh Mall (it has attractions!) – Siam Paragon
Best Food Hall – Centralworld
Best People Watching – MBK
Best Toilet Signs – Siam Center

We haven’t spent all our time in malls. We swear.
