13th Oct - 15th Oct Lucerne was sooo relaxing! I loved just having 2 days of walking around, no stress, just sightseeing and lazing about
Thank God the beds here were sooo comfortable, I think we all agreed that Lucerne (and Munich) had the most comfortable rooms, I had a bit of a backache so it helped me out a lot! (i think it was the stupid bed in Rome that started the pains because when u sit on it ure vor ends up touching the ground!) We were SHOCKED by the prices in Switzerland! shocked i think is an understatement! ok, ill give u a good example, a maccas meal ended up being 13swiss francs, to convert to aussie $ you add about 10% onto the price...that makes a maccas meal in Lucerne about 15 aussie dollars!!! ummm, someone pick Sam up cos i think he just had an attack! haha the guys couldnt believe it and quickly stopped making fun of my bread and cheese buying fetish...hehe (funny that) I seriously was expecting THIS Ronald to be wearing a grey suit and holding a briefcase and wearing a badge saying "Ronald 'tax department' McDonald" ummm, rippoff galore! and not only that, switzerland boasted the highest ever internet rates of €10 an hour! thats about 20 aussie bucks! these people are crazy! Oh, and maybe you can ask Sam how the casino in Lucerne was..im sure he'd be happy to let you know if youre interested eh Sam? hehe
Breakfast was included in the hostel which was absolutley fabulous (cos we didnt like the price tags on anything in switzerland) so we ate as much as we could and rolled out of the hotel...I left the boys and decided to venture up towards the old part of town where the city wall was, well part of it that remains is anyway. When going near the Lake, all these black bug thingies started attacking and flying up my nose! there were so many that i couldnt continue on the way i wanted to go so i had to change route! I made it up to the first tower (with squashed bits of black fruit fly things hanging off my face!) and climbed the stairs all the way to the top and it was worth it because the view was immaculate! it was freezing here (dur, switzerland in october...go figure) it was here that the jacket i bought from Prague helped me out quite a bit! in total there are 3 towers, one of them sports a huge 15th century clock which is privaliged enough to strike 1 minute before the rest of the clocks in Lucerne do...
At about 4pm I started to head back to the hotel (I was supposed to meet the guys at around 7pm) to my surprise (well, not really actually! haha) they were already there! so for the rest of the night (till about 11pm) we decided to vege out on the hotel couch and watch european TV, the only programs we could understand ended up being the rennovation and antique selling shows (which i didnt mind - i think the boys got bored though)
The next day decided to leave the boys and continue my tour. Saw all the churches in the vicinity of the city and ended up sitting in on a funeral which I didnt even know! i thought it was a mass! mamma mia! i quickly shuffled out of the Church before Mr. Lucerne mans family found out a tourist was snapping pics! yikes, only happens to me i tell you...
Walked over to the Lion Monument which is an amazing sight, even though I have seen it before. It was created in commemoration for the swiss soldiers killed in the 1792 battle of Tielich and is hewn out of natural rock on the side of a cliff. Walked past the casino (i imagined this was the place Sam had come to..hehe sorry to keep reminding you Sam heheh) and had a great walk along the river Lucerne overlooking the Swiss Alps...breath taking (oh! a new word!) there are sooo many swans here! they are really cute and i love the way they stick their vorigs out of the water while trying to grab some weeds from the bottom, gorgeous animals! cute vorigs...hehe
After visiting 3 Churches (and all 3 times begin inside the bells chimed!) I set off for the fair that was on near the waterside...massive rides, stalls, dodgem cars u name it..walked around for an hour and met up with the boys. All in all, Lucerne was a great place and i did have a nice time, but 3 days ended up being too much for all of us, basically you can do Lucerne in a day, no worries...
