Sunny 2 Bedroom Flat, Pet Roaches Included!

hey everyone! finally a day where I will be updating fully! emma has been called back to work so I have nothing to do but spend my day on the internet catching up on things! oh right and looking for a new job. I've had my share of market research for now! may go back if I can't find anything else though. boo.

so we've made the move into the new place. it went rather smoothly. we managed to pack all our stuff up and made it safely to our new pad courtesy of emma's friend carlo. it's weird riding in a car after so many weeks of relying on public transportation and walking!!! so we took a little trip to the recently opened ikea and bought a few items to make our place feel homey. I bought a pillow for $3.95 and that's pretty much all it's worth! poor thing has no shape and I had to double up the pillow case to get more padding. I also bought a comforter and a cover set too. we managed to find some bargain camping air mattresses at k-mart for $7.50 a piece, mine was regular $80. it's a coleman too but it leaks like crazy! after filling it using the hairdrier (props to mina's method!) it looks comfy and is quite firm but once you wake up in the morning your back is killing you from the hardwood floor and the mattress is fully deflated. oh well, for $7.50 what more can you ask for!

so our first night in the apartment turned out to be a fun one. we learned of the cockroach infestation and decided to camp out in the living room rather than our carpeted bedrooms. we have a hot water boiler that isn't really kept in a separate room just sorta in the hall on the way to the bathroom and it's right across from emma's bedroom. so she gets tonnes of friends crawling into her room once it gets dark. usually around 10 o'clock at night. camping out was fun though even though we had no tv, no stereo, we managed. our second day was full of shopping. we managed to find mini speakers at the "everything for under $10" store for $6. hooked it up to the ipod and we had ourselves a new stereo system with hours and hours of music! haha I'm such a geek. we also bought a santa tea towel set complete with 1 oven mitt. found a set of 10 hangers for $2. "BARGAIN" as emma likes to say. we walked downtown to the woolworths and ended up purchasing a christmas tree for $20 and a few decorations. the christmas tree is about 6' high and really decent for that price. our decorations made it even cuter! they're not the typical tradational christmas colors of red and green. they're a lavender/pink color and it comes with ball ornaments, present ornaments, stars, a small piece of garland and a small string of beads. it's cute though and really girly. we also got a bath mat which is the same color! haha. we had bought a quiche for dinner that night and put it in our oven. the symbols on the oven's dial were a little confusing and after 10 minutes of cooking, it had turned a nice shade of black and our apartment was full of smoke. I was scared the fire alarm would go off and the sprinklers would drench our stuff. but no worries, apparently there are no smoke detectors! great! must've been on the wrong setting. so we went out for some Hungry Jacks which is the exactly the same as Burger King but they had to change the name or something.

Yesterday was Wednesday. I had slept fine until 3:30 a.m. but suddenly woke up for no reason. that's when I saw a medium size roach scurrying across my air mattress!!!! OMG I freaked out, woke emma up in the process and ran to get something to squish it with. with my awesome luck it darted away and was nowhere to be found. after that little incident I could not get back to sleep knowing that beast was somewhere lurking in the shadows, just waiting for me to close my eyes and come back to attack me!!! so I sat up and stayed awake for the next 2 hours, with mini flashlight in hand. I managed to kill about 5 roaches in the following hour. 5:30 rolled around and it started to get light out so I drifted back to sleep until morning.

the exterminator man a.k.a. "Mr. Flick" was running a little behind schedule. we were told he was coming between 12 and 2 p.m. but he didn't show up until 2:30. isn't that always the case? anyway he started in the kitchen and worked his way around the apartment. he was puffing some weird smoke or something into every little crack in the place and then squirted some other stuff too. slowly one by one, the roaches started to come out of hiding and looked like they were a bit drunk! it was hilarious yet gross to watch as they slowly hobbled and died on the floor! Mr Flick was only there for about an hour. sprayed another thing onto all the skirting boards and then left. he had said something like we had the roaches that hatch every 6 weeks and that they will slowly take the bait and die. in about 2 weeks, our place should be bug free! yay it was exciting yet sad to know we still have another 2 weeks of roach killing. we couldn't take the dead bodies anymore so we left and did some grocery shopping. last night was okay with the exception of a few huge beasts. I still don't understand why there are so many and they aren't kicking the bucket yet! but I'll be sure to update once they are fully gone and our new place is back to being perfect.

long enough update? I'll post again later next week and this time it'll be something other than bugs!!!

miss you all and am enjoying the hot weather for you!

Hey Jazz!!

Great to hear that.....all is going well. Haaa, you could turn this into a competition or something between you girls....who can kill the most roaches in a day, or, who can fall asleep with the roaches or something...hahaha....your own fear factor show in your own apartment. can't get much cooler than that eh!!

Well hope you have a merry christmas this year...missing you already!! If I ever get an hour to myself during regular business hours when stores are still open, I'll try to send you something!!! hahhaa, maybe a bug zapper or something. I saw this tennis racket thing that like an electric fence, and zaps bugs, maybe I'll send you one to roast the roaches!! heheheee.

So yes, nothing all to new here. Theres a video production company here in fort mcmurray that I never knew about, Snow White Productions, so I'm going to check that out soon. But either than that, its all old news.

So keep safe, have fun, and watch your step at night....remember, if you hear crunching sounds its not fortune cookies you're walking on!!

Miss ya Jazz!!

TC.
