October 16, 2004Hey hey! from Koh Samui - night 2!
what is up everybody? thanks for all the great posts I miss you all!! anyway I'm coming from the busy town/island of koh samui. we are staying in a ghetto little hotel called green hotel (what a great original name!) there isn't even an elevator except for a lift for luggage! it's quite busy here in koh samui and more exciting than krabi was. we arrived yesterday after a 40 minute flight from krabi. the airport was too cute and reminded me of something out of a movie because it was all outdoors! we had to fly on one of those propeller airplanes and then they took us via cart to the outdoor arrival area. the beach here is awesome but too bad we are located just off of it. our green hotel is only costing us about $25/night so it's pretty decent. it even has a/c so no worries! we are on the main strip with all the restaurants, bars, shops etc. there's even a starbucks here about 30 minutes walk from our hotel! yesterday we had dinner on the beach. what a view! linda had some fresh crab and prawns. I opted for some fried tuna in garlic and pepper. everything here is fried and I think my sudden breakout is proof! anywho, so we just walked around and chillaxed last night. this morning we got up early and went on a 6 1/2 hour day tour around the island of koh samui. we were picked up at our hotel by a mini van with about 8 other people (we couldn't figure out where they were from...scandinavia perhaps?!) anyway we stopped at alot of cool places...we saw this statue of this 8 armed chinese lady monk or something like that and a temple...and we took pictures of this big buddha. we also saw some rock formations called grandma and grandpa rock because they are oddly shaped like male and female genitalia!!! hahahaha! the pic that linda took of me in front of grandpa rock is pretty hilarious!!! hehe....we saw a monkey get some coconuts down from a tree and later posed for a pic with it on my arm. I was scared it might pee on me and it was quite heavy. you'll have to see the photo...it's something else! we also hiked up the side of a mountain to see a cool waterfall. trust me, the last thing you want to do is a 30 minute hike in flip flops and a mini skirt. I managed somehow though as did linda in her $1.50 flip flops. oh yeah we also saw a mummified monk. he's about 20 years old and it was pretty creepy. he had sunglasses on too! we finally stopped at nathon town for some lunch and shopping. I have come to enjoy eggs alot so I got a pork omellete with some rice for less than a dollar. we got back to our green hotel and rested a bit before heading out again to do some more shopping. things are pretty cheap here as far as necessities so we thought we should stockpile before we head onto sydney like shampoo, toothpaste and snacks and stuff. our flight leaves on monday the 18th back to bangkok, stopping over in singapore for a few hours and then aussie here we come!! I'm excited yet a little saddened because thailand is dirt cheap and I was finally getting used to the sights and smells. I forgot to mention that our first night in bangkok I picked up a pair of glasses! I look pretty fobbed out with them too. me and linda constantly get asked if we are from japan. or singapore or sometimes they even think we are from thailand! it's a combo of linda's fobby haircut and my fobby new glasses. but yeah my glasses are dark purpley blue and are like those fobbed out black framed ones. I think they suit me quite well and they were only like $75. I hope they aren't wrecking my eyes, they seem okay so far so good..well tomorrow holds alot of excitement for us as we're going on another day tour to koh pagnan (sp????) the beaches are supposedly alot nicer than here and less touristy. they also have a full moon party on the beach every month that we were originally going to stay for but we would have to wait until the 28th and the funds are running low. maybe next year sometime...hey mina?! haha. well I guess that's it for now. my hotmail account finally shows that my limit increased to 250mb so feel free to send me some personal emails to that account now! pics are always a nice surprise. I will totally try to post some up in the next few weeks! I keep forgetting to bring my usb cable with me. anywho, talk to you later. miss you all! Comments
Hey, Jazz and Linda, We are faithfully following your trek across Thailand. Thailand (Siam) seems to be ageeing with you girls. Jazz. watch out for all the "hot breath" foods. Did you ever imagine that you would be doing some of the things that you have been doing??? Looking forward to hearing about the next leg of your amazing journey! luv, Mommy & Ger Posted by: Mommy & Gerry on October 16, 2004 03:25 PM |
