October 13, 2004It's another update! This time from Krabi!
hey guys, last night we went to see this spectacular show called the FantaSea just about 20 minutes away from phuket (pronounced POO-GET haha not f---et) and it was amazing. my favorite parts were when there were about 15 small to ginormous elephants on the stage at once and they were holding eachother's tails and walking along. and also there were some trapeez (sp??) artists swinging from the roof wearing cool black light costumes. I thought they were going to fall on us. the show was very entertaining and had a lot of dancing and pyrotechnics. we had great seats too. earlier on we had enjoyed a somewhat disappointing buffet. they claimed it was "international" but it wasn't that much just some meat and noodles and some fruit and dessert. I've been to better buffets in edmonton! hah right chow! whatever we've come to the conclusion that we are never satisfied anyway har har. the show was about 2 hours long and I got my picture before the show started with 2 baby elephants which they had available at the end of the show. it came with a cute FantaSea frame and cost around $6 or so. cool souvenir. anywho this morning we took our time and enjoyed our last day in our luxury resort (the amari coral beach resort in phuket if you wanna look it up on the net...jealous? ha) we went down for the breakfast buffet and had 2nd and 3rd helpings....I love the pineapple and the papaya was good too. took some pics of the awesome view and then took a little nap before we were picked up to leave to Krabi. a small travel company arranged our stay in krabi as well as koh samui where we are headed next. it was just me and linda in a van with the driver dude. it was about 2 1/2 hours to krabi and cost us about $35 each which isn't bad. because linda got sick previously on the boat we took to phi phi a couple days ago, we decided to just pay a little more and take the private mini van. I just passed out the whole drive here. krabi is smaller but the view from the beach is nicer than phuket. our hotel is a bit dingy but only costs about $30 a night. phuket was more lively and had alot more shopping and restaurants so we were a little disappointed when we got here. we managed to find a 7-11 though which are very abundant in thailand. it's funny to see them. unfortunately no starbucks which linda has grown an obsession for (mango citrus frappucino - really yummy) so we bought some junk food from the "sev" and started walking back to our "beach terrace" hotel. it started raining which sucked. we decided to stop at one of the little carts the the locals set up on the way and tried some fried chicken on a stick. it was pretty tasty. all together with some sticky rice it was just over a dollar. cheap and tasty snack! we met this lady from hawaii who has been visiting thailand for the last month. she managed to get a job teaching english privately to a family who owns a hotel in phuket. so they give her free room and board and she teaches the kids english. neat huh. she sounded like a well traveled person and had lots of interesting stories and pieces of advice for us. she said snorkeling in australia in the great barrier reef is to die for. after the chicken we were still a bit hungry so we walked down the road for some pizza. they have quite a few italian places here in krabi. it was actually really good! thin crust sorta like pita bread. we had the special which was pretty basic mozzarella with mushrooms and added some pineapple on top. I had a coke and all together the meal cost less than $4 for the 2 of us. it was a decent size pizza too 30 cm in diameter or so. mmmm, pizza. haha I'm a little hungry now! I bought 2 vcds today since we do have a dvd player in our room I thought I would see if they worked. if anyone has any requests I can get them for about $3 each. there's no box or anything just the cover art and the vcd. I got finding nemo (great quality) and the first daughter which just came out in theatres recently. the quality ain't that hot but still pretty cool they already have it out on the market. shell, I'll try to find some badges for you. do they have to be girl guide related or just any badges? I haven't noticed too many but I haven't really been looking. they have tonnes of "von dutch" stuff...trendy brand that celebrities like britney wear...they also have lots of fake "diesel" stuff. I picked up a carry on bag for about $10. I got a roxy trucker hat for about $4 I think it's cute. hmmm what else to write about. tomorrow we are going on a day trip to 3 different islands. it should be nice. we're gonna go by speedboat and do a little snorkeling and suntanning (or more burning in my case! :P). it only cost $30 for the whole day and we get lunch on the beach too. not much else to do here in krabi. koh samui is supposed to be more like bangkok so the shopping should be good. oh yeah when we got back to the hotel after pizza, we found out there was a water pipe burst or something in the room next to us. man we have the worst luck! my bag was a bit wet and there were puddles in our room but they wiped it down and we decided to stay in that room. we have a great view of the water and didn't want to change rooms. hopefully I can find a place to upload some pics sometime. me and linda have been switching back and forth since we have the same camera we only need 1 pic of the same thing. I guess that's about it for now. thanks again for those who read the first entry and posted comments. I don't think everyone got my email so if you chat with the others let them know the link to the site. I'm at a ADSL internet place right now and it only costs 60 baht for an hour which works out to be I think $2 cdn. pretty cheap compared to the place we were at the other night! wow it's really windy right now you can hear the waves crashing up onto the shore! I'm scared! anywho, will post later. Comments
Hey Jazzers, Mother is the last one to be clued into this clog, blog thing. It's neat! Sort of a running travel diary. Glad that you are having a great time. Burned eh? Must be careful. Perhaps some Noxema and Vitamin E will help. Not to lecture or anything but you should let your burn heal before attempting to do any H20 activities. The last thing you want is to get the area infected. Be wary of the places you are travelling to. The cleanliness is apt to be questionable. Well, I will continue reading about your adventures.... Love, Mommy & Gerry Posted by: Mommy & Gerry on October 14, 2004 02:19 AMHi it's mommy again, I got so excited about the site and hearing from you that I didn't comment on Thailand since I have been there but many, many moons ago. Yes, exotic Thailand is a multi-facetted place. Did you manage to visit the place where Anna taught the King of Siam's kids? And there are Buddas galore...reclining, golden, etc. I remember riding on a boat along the river (forgot the name)to the floating market also. Too bad Dad didn't show you any pics or movies from when we were there in '74. Ahh, it brings back fond memories. Well, we will await your next instalment of your excellent adventure(s). Only 16 more sleeps before we head off to Hawaii. Take care and TNO and stay safe... Love, Mommy and Gerry Posted by: Mommy & Gerry on October 14, 2004 02:50 AMHi Jazz, Remember to keep your bags off the floor from now on and keep them done up. Remember when I accidently imported that roach from Hawaii? If you can find a way to transmit the pix home I could burn them for you. The hotmail is up to 250 megs now. Can't wait to read what you're up to next. Love Dad & Cujo Posted by: Dad on October 14, 2004 05:57 PMHeya Hoochie! hello jazzy joe!!! |
