August 03, 2005Amsterdam
In my desire to see something of Amsterdam, we went to the New Church's Nature in Art exhibit. Very cool. I got a free ticket to get in, from a lovely guy, and we toured an exhibit that showed different cultures and their religious approaches to nature. This was interesting, especially as it shows some of the paintings that would have been in the Rijksmuseum had it not been under renovation. The museum was fresh, and different, which is important because I have become very jaded in my musuem going - I'm museumed out in a way. However, the comparison and the fresh navigation of the museum helped me gain a greater appreciation of artistic development worldwide, and the impact of Islam, Buddhism (especially Zen) and Hinduism on art, since I have a reasonable layman's knowledge of Christianity and art. That is all. Comments
