July 20, 2005Berlin
YAY! If I post this entry today, I will be up to date! (It´s big.) On our third day in Berlin, John and I got up rather reluctantly (bed soft, legs tired, etc.) and then departed on the U-Bahn to try and visit the Gemaldegallerie (since I haven´t been to an art gallery in a while). Our focus was on the German, Flemish and French art, seriously neglected in our previous work. The Gemaldegallerie was wonderfully accessible, although after 3 hours and perusing Van Eycks, Rubens and a wide variety of German religious art, John tends to get a bit antsy. We wandered back to take in the vast Potsdamer Platz, a supermodern city square that houses the supertechnical Sony Centre. It was cool to see so many modern buildings that symbolize the new Germany, as opposed to the older buildings of the Hohenzollern, Nazi and 20th century building aesthetics. Berlin has a lot of energy because of its youth. The next stop was to get some tasty organic Currywurst from a street vendor at Wittenburgplatz, a signature Berlin dish, and peoplewatch for a little while. Then I came here, to update for you all. I haven't left a comment in a while.... Mercury is okay, spoke to him recently. I'm volunteering with the divers cité festival in his honour:) Happy early birthday (incase I forget next week)!! Posted by: Mari on July 20, 2005 04:18 PMSounds fun, and it warms my heart to hear about John's pub journey :) BTW, I always thought Currywurst referred to my first experience w/ Indian food... remind me to tell you some time.
