The Return To Munich

I´ll just give you all a rundown on what happened. It begins Wednesday morning in Ireland.

11:30 - leave Killarney
12:10 - make last petrol stop, buy drinks
2:00 - stop for food, drinks and bathroom. One hour ahead of schedule.
2:25 - run into construction on N7
4:00 - reach M7 motorway. Now behind schedule.
4:26 - reach traffic jam on M50 toll road.
4:46 - still on M50
4:58 - still on M50
5:10 - stupid M50
5:15 - pay €1.80 in toll
5:26 - make car rental return point
5:37 - John stuck in queue behind upset customers
5:50 - depart for airport. See sign for Ryanair, all other airlines the other direction. John says to me:´If he goes towards the other airlines, I´ll scream.´
5:51 - John screams.
6:00 - flight leaves in 50 minutes, check-in has closed. John attempts to look calm so that I won´t worry but runs in a circular pattern around his luggage waving his arms in the air saying ´Don´t panic!´
6:03 - check in at flight sales desk
6:05 - informed that flight is an hour and a half late (runway problems at Charleroi)
7:00 - flight is now 2 hours late
7:22 - flight now 3 hours late. John has restorative Guinness.
8:48 - finally boarding plane
9:00 - plane refuels as I consult menu card
9:10 - further half hour delay announced (flight congestion)
9:50 - plane takes off
10:10 - have cup of minestrone soup
11:40 - land in Frankfurt Hahn
11:57 - customs officer stamps passport, congratulates me on Liverpool winning the Champions League (I have a special ´travelling fan´visa in my passport from Turkey).
12:12 - collect baggage
12:17 - collect Swiss Army knife
12:28 - arrive in nick of time for last shuttle bus to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof. No bus driver, but bus is labelled for destination.
12:30 - scheduled bus departure time, according to schedule posted on bus. No sign of bus driver.
12:55 - still no bus driver.
1:12 - stll no bus driver. Check schedule again.
1:20 - man shows up and has cigarette in front of bus
1:33 - man reveals himself as bus driver
1:43 - bus departs
2:50 - bus arrives in Mainz
3:00 - arrive Frankfurt HBF
3:10 - arrive hotel, collapse in room.
6:30 - jackhammers start going in building site outside our window. Wish was dead.
8:45 - throw alarm at John to assure him that yes, it is ringing.
9:30 - breakfast in hotel
10:30 - check out
11:05 - get reservations on train at a cost of €10
11:50 - cannot find reserved seats. Discover that original train broke down and that there are no reservations. Mourn the loss of €10.
3:27 - Train stops for no apparent reason, 200 metres from platform.
3:39 - finally off frigging train
3:48 - on Munich public transit
4:15 - collapse through doors, giving pension owners effusive welcome.

I'm sorry you had to go through all this. I know you will be able to look back and laugh at it though, because you've turned it into comedy...a sort of dark humour.

I'm so glad you decided to keep a journal. A definate lifetime souveneir of all your emotional states throughout your travels.

'They were the best of times, and they were the worst of times' (I hope I didn't screw that up).
