Innsbruck

Ok, so I have 15 minutes to tell you all about Innsbruck, and (auuuggh! 14 minutes) because it was all I could get at this MPreis supermarket (the internet really is the worldwide web).

1. It is BEAUTIFUL. I mean, Switzerland was just gorgeous, but it´s the ugly stepsister in my opinion.

2. It is easy to get lost. John and I used the terrible tourist office map (if you are going to Innsbruck and reading this, take the €3 map, not the €1. You can probably get the €1 one for free at your accommodation) and still walked for hours. We flopped through the door of the Gasthaus Innsbruck and the first words the hotel owner said to us was - `Don´t worry. We have very good beer on draft.`

John and I explored the Hofkirche, a beautiful church dominated by bronze figures of royal family members placed around an abandoned royal tomb. We also went to see the Giant Panorama Painting, something that took my breath away, despite my initial suspicion that it would suck.

It was raining, and I was feeling a bit ill, so we took an easy day. We splurged a little on a bus tour, because we knew little about the city, it was raining, and everything seemed to be up a big hill.

After a nap, and some pills, I felt better, so we went to Theisenbrau, Innsbruck´s answer to Brutopia. They make all their own beer, and they have a terrific, friendly staff. They also serve a raft of food, and have multilingual menus, so you know what you´re eating. Despite their accessibility, it´s full of locals, and not too touristed. John and I ate there twice because they are also cheap.

I don't think I've ever heard 'Switzerland' & 'ugly' used in a sentence... Innsbruck must be the best-kept secret in Europe! BTW, I think it is very redemptive for the world in general that there are Brutopes all over it. There is hope :) Love you!

*sigh*
Austria
jealous, actually really jealous
I want to go to Austria!
Matthew leaves in a month - can't quite believe that my baby bro will be there for an entire year!
I got the other two post cards - thank you! The St. Peter's one is very pretty, and you're right that I would have loved to see the aquarium/art/science etc, etc, museum!
