What we are eating and spending

As per some requests, here is a sample of what we are spending and eating on our trip.

Egypt
The land of Kosheri and Schwaerma. Kosheri is a traditional dish that consists of pasta, beans, chic peas, lentils and friend onions. This it topped with a tomatoe sauce and sometimes a garlic oil sauce as well. It is quite tasty and very filling. It is also very cheap and a medium bowl costs about 0.50$. Schwaerma is shaved meat in a large pita or an Arabic bread. It costs 0.20-1.00$. Breakfasts throughout the middle east consists of bread, bread and more bread. You get multiple types of rolls, breads, cakes etc. Usually there is a boiled egg and a piece of processed cheese. Sometimes you get jam for the bread, sometimes you get butter.
Everything in Egypt is very cheap. Cab rides are around a dollar to go anywhere within Cairo.

Jordan
Jordan is much more expensive then Egypt. Food remains cheap, but the Jordanian dollar is worth more then the Canadian dollar (it is the second highest currency in the world, lower only to the Kuwaiti dollar), so you have to be careful what you buy.
Food has a lot more vegies in Jordan. Tabbouleh, Fatousch. (Perhaps it is just that we got sick of eating only bread and decided to chance the salads and other raw vegies). We also started eating a lot of Hummous and different egg plant dips. We even tried raw goats meat spread (don't worry, it was in one of the most fancy restaurants in Jordan and we didn't get sick). There seems to be more variety of cheese, although most is different consistencies of white cheese and can be very salty. (Shawn doesn't like it).

Syria
Syria again is cheap like Egypt. I think in fact it is cheaper for souvenirs and gifts. We had a huge picnic for 7 people today, hummous, pitas, chickens, salads and vegies for a total cost of 5.00$.
Food in Jordan and Syria has been fantastic. Shawn wants to cook more middle eastern foods and has even decided he needs to add mint to his sandwiches once he gets home.

As usual, I am really enjoying your writing and the pictures are fantastic! I can't start the day without checking out what you have been up to.
