Our First Day in Egypt

Hi everyone,
Well, we had an adventerous day. We got a ride from the hostel out to the pyramids and we rode camels in the back way. The actual pyramids were closed today, because Laura Bush is here and she was touring the Giza plateau with the wife of the Egyptian president. (Wouldn't you love to have the ability to actually shut down one of the wonders of the world). But thanks to our industrious taxi driver who introduced us to a camel guide, we managed to get into the pyramids via the back route. Below you will find some of our photos.
Enjoy!

Even though the air appears grey/ brown with smog, there was a noticable difference in how the air tasted/ felt in our lungs when we were at the pyramids vs right downtown. The smog in Cairo is unbelievable. The people have been incredibly friendly though, and we were able to find a great Egyptian food stop where we had fel-a-fel (a pita filled with shaved beef and spices) which was delicious.
Next stop, valley of the Kings, we leave on the overnight sleeper train tonight and arrive at 5am in Luxor.
Time to go shower and wash the sand out of our hair.

Holy Canoli, You look like Rob and a curly Amber on the Amazing Race! Pictures are fabulous. Hard to believe you have only been there a day or so and accomplished so much all ready. I hope your camels are cooperative! Looking forward to your next posting.
