Who we really are...

Zanzibar.jpg
This was a beach in Nungwe. We stayed in a lovely little beach house. It was fantastic. (The tatoo isn't real, it was done by a local lady with black henna). I think this was around the hottest thing we had ever experienced. It was so hot at night that we could barely sleep.
Some of my favorite memories of Nungwe: An elderly man from a local village who walked up and down the beach selling shell necklaces (he was so friendly), and our adventures snorkeling in the Indian ocean.

Our little skier/ snowboarder entry doesn't give too many details about who we really are, so here is a different approach.

We are Shawn and Laura Housden, we currently live in central BC Canada. We have decided to "leap" and quit our jobs and head back to school. In between heading to school and the end of work we are squeezing in another trip, this time to the Middle East.

Shawn is a Professional Forester, and I am a Registered Nurse. Shawn worked for a private company for 9 years, and I worked for Public Health.

We met when I was tree planting for a company that worked for Shawn, but we didn't start dating for another 2 years. When I graduated Uni we were married and we settled into life. This settling was marked by frequent overseas adventures and the knowledge that we were not going to live here forever.

Together we honeymooned in Costa Rica, travelled to visit my family in France, travelled the UK, and made our way from South Africa to Kenya in a whirlwind tour of 8 countries. We definately have the travel bug, and as we would sit on our old university couch and futon in our living room, we would always joke that our money went into plane tickets, not furniture.

We have definately enjoyed our time living in Williams Lake. There is fantastic mountain biking around here, and we get to head off biking a couple times a week. My parents also built a condo at Sun Peaks, so during the winter we spend most of our time on the hill. I think the hardest thing in leaving will be leaving all the great people we have met over the past few years, when you live in a small town it is easy to make strong friendships.

There are some things I am not looking forward to in living in Vancouver. In Williams Lake it is easy to get around, to and from work, to and from biking etc. In a big city it takes so much longer just getting places that you often miss out on the doing. But I guess to get where you want in life you have to be willing to make some sacrifices.

Going back to school has always been in the back of Shawn's mind, and with a lot of determination he is going back to get his MBA. I am actually heading back to school as well, but to do something totally different. I like to think of myself as creative, (maybe even an artist but I feel funny calling myself that) so I am going to take Interior Design. A big switch from nursing, and I think a difficult switch for many people to understand.

What I think that life really should be about is just following your heart/ dreams, as cheesy as it sounds. Too often we get caught up in the hectic frey of life itself and we don't give ourselves the chance to live life as an adventure. So we are trying to live by that philosophy and seek out adventures as we have the opportunity.

We hope you enjoy reading about our adventures and misshaps and we look forward to your comments.
