About Us
We’re from the good ‘ol USA, but we currently live in Austria (the one between Italy and Germany with NO kangaroos). We spent about 10 years in Orange County, and being like most Californians we grew up elsewhere (Pennsylvania for Ellyse, Alaska for Eric). We always enjoyed traveling, experiencing different countries, and tried to make the most of our vacations and business trips–but it wasn’t quite enough. The world is far too big for weekend getaways and frantic 1 week trips. We figured the best way to solve this problem was to take a year off and see a whole bunch of places at once (we always knew all that tuition spent on engineering degrees would pay off for solving something one day). So we quit our jobs in high tech and went off to see the world.
How did we get started down this path? Originally, we started a “boat” savings account back in 1997 with a half-baked vision of sailing around the world someday. Anytime that one of us got a bonus or saved a little extra cash we added it in (cut out some Starbucks and pack your lunch). Then we found a few websites from other people who went “RTW” and the late night dreams over bottles of wine didn’t seem so crazy. Our delayed “gap year” actually lasted 15 months, but eventually we decided to go home to CA and settle down again (and save up for our next trip).
However, the global economy offered up a job for Eric in Europe instead of the OC, so off we went to live in Austria, learn German, and see what it’s like to be an expat. The adventure continues… and the 3rd quarter begins.

Hey E&E,
It’s great to see pictures of you guys!! You look pretty much EXACTLY the same as you did almost 20 years ago!! I still remember Eric eating “ramen noodles” our freshman year at Lehigh. I also seem to remember a miscellaneous trash can getting destroyed for some unknown reason and a very early morning phone call from a mystery marine sargeant.
