November 29, 2005 Captain Black Toes
After 3 months on the road we decided to take a holiday! Holiday, you say? But aren't we on a permanent holiday? Well,Kind of, but travelling long term is more challenging and hardwork than you think. It's easy to forget that you are lucky to be able to take a year out and hit the road. You can get so caught up in pressures of day to day backpacking that the notion that you are on a long extended break becomes almost too much. So, here on the island of Koh Lanta, on the Andaman coast, we have taken a rest from it all. For the last 6 days it's been mostly a lazy hammock affair. Lying in the sun-when it's out!, snorkling in caves- amazing, drinking chang and listening to the best music in our local tree house bar, it's been a real chillout time. ALMOST! Course, I have to complicate things and go and slip break a few toes. Great fun trying to make your way around the hillside accomodation when your hopping on one foot. And I'm not the only one. The resort is a regularly hang out for the maimed like me. In the evening we get together at the bar and compare scars. Think I'm not the worst case but my black toes are a regular talking point with the locals. Tomorrow the 'holiday' ends and we head for the North and Chang Mai. Hopefully the weather is better there. We'll come back south for the xmas period, maybe having the ultimate paradise island experience when the monsoons are finally over. Comments
