Well, the travelblog is up and running and we haven’t even left yet! Oh, what are we to do with this space. Over 3 months to go and it seems like a long way away (Dublin slang?). We set up this blog to give an in debt account of both our pre-trip preparation and the trip itself. Inspired by many of the other blogs featured on bootsnall, the plan was to write a weekly/forthnightly account of what we got up to. But, alas, it hasn’t happened YET!

Part of the reason for this is that we have changed our minds. Not about going away but about our style of planning and preparation. We are no longer interested in compiling a detailed travel itinerary with exact locations, dates of arrival and departure, etc. It’s not our style. We are more interested in going with the flow, feeling our way through the journey and making decisions as we go. This realization only came after stressing out over numerous travel guides that we got out from the local library. Way too much info to absorb, chose from, prioritize…...

So, the plan is not to have a plan, just a sort of wish list of places that we would like to go. At the mo, it feels a bit like this:

India- fly into Delhi then take it from there…
Nepal (will keep an eye on political situation)
Tibet (if we get to Nepal)
China- too many places
Vietnam- looks amazing
Laos- unspoilt!
Cambodia- heard a lot about here.
Thailand (for at least 2 months) have been before- Chang Mai here we come!
Malaysia
Indonesia
Australia (maybe, we get working visa)
New Zealand. (extreme sports!!)

Basically, the only guide books that we are bringing with us are, the Footprint guide to India-an amazingly huge an detailed guide, and First Time Asia - Rough Guides. The 'plan' is to trade or buy guidebooks as we go. That way we can cut down on weight (physical and mental!!!) All other info, we hope to get from local sources,internet or word of mouth. From past experience we have found that recommendations from fellow journeypersons (p.c.!) have served us very well.
