Ulan Bator -> Beijing

DSC02478.JPG
A somewhat bizarre but usual sight in UB: “walking phone boots”…
They’re actually carrying satellite phones, offering their service to people in the street for around 100-200 Togrog/min (a lot cheaper than calling with a mobile phone, so everyone seems to use that only for _receiving_ calls…)
I’m not sure whether the mouth covers are mostly for the cold, smog and/or fear of SARS(?!)…

Yep, mobile phone operators are inventive too here…

The “road” to Manzushir.

DSC02504.JPG
yes, it is what you think it is. How else would you cook five cows (or was it sheep?) at a time?!

Manzushir Temple, in peaceful harmony with the janitor’s ger and laundry.

The omnipresent (in Mongolia, that is) Buddhist wheel of life - kinda liked it.

Helpless Ratko, locked behind the gate to the Manzushir Park.
(I had simply crawled under it.)

Maybe you get it, but I didn’t.

Kind of unearthly view, on the road back from Manzushir.

Dunno what Pino was looking for.

The [slide] at the end of the walk from Jinshanling to Simatai, crossing the river.
Fun, but too slow to be exciting - I liked the ones we made better.

DSC02742.JPG
Simatai, “forbidden” to go to the top of the mountain.
The guard was willingful enough to pose for the photo… and then let me pass anyway (after refusing a cigarette).

Beijing Duck!
With Peter, Nick, and the two Swedish girls (sorry, their names escape me at the moment).
