February 06, 2005Photos of M'sia/Jakarta
I should integrate these back into the text, but am too lazy. A view of a few of the several thousand motorcycles queued at the Sing-M'sia border crossing near Johor Bahru. How tropical fish are sold in Asia. I saw similar stalls in Kota Kinabalu. Building near the Maritime Museum in Melaka. The riverfront in Melaka. The Christ Church, built by the Dutch in 1753, in Melaka Animal money from the days when Melaka was an important trade port between India, China and SE Asia
While this cafe is vacant, their sign remains. Oh how true this is in so many ways. A well decorated streetside in Melaka Kampung Kling Mosque, one of Malaysia's oldest, features a Pagoda-like minaret of Moorish style Ahhh. The KL skyline. Glorious city. The ominous Jakarta skyline, taken from the plane. The Independance Monument (Monas) in the centre of a large park in downtown Jakarta Garuda, a mythical eagle, graces the crest of Indonesia From the viewing platform of Monas One of the larger mosques in the city, with one of the larger cathedrals immediately behind... Interesting proximity. Jalan Jaksa: the hostel area. Quiet and refined, this street was apparently a haven for foreigners before the October 2002 event that changed the face of tourism in Indonesia. Traffic on one of the major roads in Jakarta (near Gambir Station) A Bajaj tricycle powered by a noisy and smokey 2-stroke engine. A street in Yogyakarta, just off Malioboro Comments
