Brunei Hash House Harriers, second installment. Vijen accompanied me on what would be my second Hash, and his fourth. At a location near the Garuka camp (Nepalese soldiers) we joined a smaller group than last week, the holidays having already started for many in Brunei. Cars lined the roadway near the trailhead for several hundred metres. We gathered our water, flashlight, and my chocolate bar and set off to find Len and another expat who would escort us along the hash. This week's hareline was not too exciting, and it followed the Garuka trails for most of the hour and a half run. Half disappointed, we navigated the checks easily. At one point Len and I lost the paper trail, but followed a trail around the hillside and found it again, successful in avoiding the brambles and brush that was thick on the steep slope that most other hashers scaled. Before dark we emerged from the jungle to the starting point where many had already started on the Tiger. Vijen and Dean, an Aussie math teacher at STPRI, stumbled out about 15minutes later under the full cloak of darkness. Vijen had given me his keys to keep in my pocket; unfortunately he had his LED flashlights keychain attached. Luckily they made it out! Vijen and I scooted off to meet up with Lorrie, missing the free Tiger given to guests... Comments
